[Story] The Fern and the Bamboo

I found this at A Collection of Random Thoughts. I fixed some spelling and grammar mistakes, mind you, so it's not exactly the same.

One day I decided to quit . . . I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. . . . I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God," I said, "can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me.

"Look around," He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes," I replied.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

"In the second year the fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

"In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed, but I would not quit. The same in year four.

"Then in the fifth year, a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.

"Compared to the fern, it was seemingly small and insignificant.

"But just six months later, the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

"It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.

"Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots? I would not quit on the bamboo; I will never quit on you.

"Don't compare yourself to others," He added. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful.

"Your time will come," God said to me. "You will rise high."

"How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

"Yes," He said. "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."

I left the forest, realizing that God will never give up on me. And He will never give up on you.

Never regret a day in your life. Good days give you happiness; bad days give you experiences; both are essential to life.

Hey there! You've not signed in for a while, so I was wondering how things are going? Hopefully you can sign in sometime in the near future :) I'd like to hear how you are doing! Did you have a good Christmas and New Year's? I hope so!

I removed my account on the anime list website by the way, so that's why I am posting this on here. :)

I've kept you in my prayers! I hope things are well.

Take care and God Bless!

Sorry for taking so long to reply! I am still well, and thank you very much for your prayers! You have no idea how much I appreciate it!

My Christmas wasn't exciting, but I did enjoy my New Year's, thanks for asking! I hope you enjoyed yours as well. :)

Working a lot lately, so I'm sorry but my hiatus here will probably continue. I so wish I had a laptop... someday, maybe!

Thanks for checking in on me. Hopefully will be able to talk soon. Take care and God bless! <3

Heeey! Oh, don't worry! I understand! It's super awesome to hear from you :) I'm glad you're well! Still praying for you. I'm glad that at least your New Year's turned out well :) sorry to hear Christmas wasn't too exciting. I hope this Christmas will be a wonderful one.

My Christmas and New Year's were okay, just kind of lonely without family/friends. It's good though, because I saw everyone a few days later. I guess you just kind of hope for everyone to be together on Christmas day, but it's not like I didn't get to see everyone a few days later, so it really ended up being okay. ^_^ The "alone" time on Christmas gave me time to reflect and give thanks to God.

Best wishes with work! I hope to talk again soon, but I understand if you can't for a while. I will keep checking here and there to see if you were able to reply ^_^ you are also welcome to email me anytime if you want to! I think I entered my addy on here. :)

Take care and God Bless!
Have a great week! <3
