[Journal] Bird-watching

Ha! Betcha didn't know I loved to bird-watch, didja? Ok, so, maybe you did... whatever.

This morning, when I went outside with Missy (my dog), as usual, I spent some time just listening to the birds. We live way out in the middle of nowhere, so the birds are about all you can hear, especially early in the morning.

Well, I saw the pair of robins we have right in our backyard out hunting for worms as usual, and as usual I heard at least two white-throated sparrows that I never do see... DX I swear they taunt me. Anyway, I spotted a less usual sight—blue-gray gnatcatchers! Why is this unusual? Because I'm in New Brunswick, and it's actually rare for them to migrate this far north. They usually don't even come up as far as Maine! And do you know what? I saw three of them! That's right, three. Being that they are here to breed, that means there are probably four (two pairs), and I just didn't see one. Two of them flew right in front of me, so I got a pretty good look at their markings, and there's no doubt about it, they're blue-gray gnatcatchers.

Too bad I didn't have a camera. :( Mom keeps forgetting to buy film, and the digi is low-end and takes really lousy shots.

Maybe next time I'll spot them again and I'll have a camera on me! *hopeful*
